This post is just a friendly reminder that the Second Annual Celebración de Cinco de Moustache is only 10 weeks away. For some of you, this mean that the time to start growing is now. Get to work. May 5th is on a Friday this year - the day before ISU graduation - so the party should be tremendous. I plan on trying to give this guy a run for his money.

“Stonebrook Ronald Reagans” Basketball Update I
Last week the Stonebrook Ronald Reagans improved to 1-1 on the season with a 55-45 victory over Bethesda Lutheran. Clinging to a 44-43 lead with four and a half minutes left, the Reagans took a timeout, then took out their opponents with stifling defense and clutch free-throw shooting by Seth Doorn (G) and Zach Griebahn (F).
Notes… The consensus MVP for the game was 2nd-half scorekeeper Mara Lennander, who was conscripted by the short-handed officiating team to run the clock for the Valentine’s Day game… The Reagan played without injured guard Mike Biang (engagement) for the second week in a row; Biang is listed as “likely” for this week… also on the Valentine’s Day/Injured Reserve, guard Jason J-Dubs Walker is expected to return this week… After this Tuesday’s game, the Reagans get a much-deserved bye.
This weeks game - Tuesday, February 21st:
The Stonebrook Ronald Reagans (1-1) vs. First Assembly of God 2 (0-1)
New Ames Middle School; 8:15 tipoff
Admission: $0
Upcoming Events
The Lone Strangers (+/-1) will be playing at the Bali Satay House on Saturday, April 8th, along with Otter (jam-type rock) and the Jive Management Trio, a blues quartet featuring Adam Vos on the bass guitar. Mark you calendars.
Also, Thursday, March 2nd at the Bali Satay House will be the world premier of funk-blues-jam super-group Groovikleez. You don’t want to miss it!
Valentine’s Quotes
I have some quotes I’d like to share that seem appropriate for Valentine’s Day.
“There are two ways to argue with a woman, and neither of them work.”
-NBA Star Carlos Boozer, canceling an interview because his wife was expecting him.“Was that one of the more satisfying dumps you’ve had?”
-Reporter Suzy Shuster to Nebraska football coach Bill Callahan after he was doused with Gatorade.
Ok, perhaps the second one has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day. But maybe, just maybe, perhaps it does.
I also have some lyrics to share. The song “Beautiful” by James Blunt was on the radio when my alarm went off this morning, and, though I was half-asleep and unable to open my eyes, I actually cringed, then laughed out loud at the utter brilliance of the lyrics (read: how amazingly horrible they were).
Yeah, she caught my eye, As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was f-ing high
And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last til the end. You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.
True love, courtesy of a 15 second meeting on a subway platform, shared via 3rd grade poetry. It’s a total eclipse of the colon.
Throw Yourself a Funeral
Columnist, speech-writer, and all-around mom-of-the-world Peggy Noonan gets the Idea-of-the-Week (if not Month) award. In her column on the funeral of Coretta Scott King, Ms. Noonan makes a strong case for each of us to have TWO funerals:
Apart from its beauty, dignity and fight, Mrs. King’s funeral got me thinking about this: Did she know how much she was loved? It’s hard for a person to know that. If only she could have gone to her own funeral, she would have known. I wonder if it wouldn’t be good if somewhere along the way, just once in your life, you got to call your own funeral. Pick the church, the speakers, the music, sit in the pew, clap when they talk about how wonderful you were. Then afterwards have a long lunch and toast your memory. Then the next day you go to work as usual, but maybe in a different mood. I don’t see why we don’t do this.
I think she has a point. So I’ve started planning my first funeral. If anyone knows how to get ahold of Bono, let me know.
Basketball League
It is, once again, time for church basketball league. This year, Stonebrook is fielding a remarkable THREE teams (in the past, there have only been four teams in the entire LEAGUE)! Stonebrook 3 (we need a team name - current suggestion is the Ronald Reagans, please help) is playing on Tuesday nights, and I thought, hey, why not give Rockers a chance to come out and cheer for the good guys? After all, Stonebrook 2 had a cheering section when we played them tonight.

Can’t Miss This
Courtesy of VH1 - I present Billy Corgan and Professional Wrestling. Yes, the Smashing Pumpkins front-man appears on a no-name pro-wrestling show, filmed in Peoria (I believe P-town is the ONLY place something like this could ever happen). It is amazingly… amazing.
Check out the great commentary, too.
