All My Life’s a Parallelogram

A followup

I need a wireless card for my desktop PC.  Is there anyone looking to get rid of one?

You-Tube clip of the day: Manthem.
Somebody finally figured out what demographic was being ignored.  I love everything about this commercial, including the completely unnecessary quiche reference, the ‘commando’ move, and the fact the I have yet to meet a female who thinks this is even an OK commercial – that’s what makes it great.

All My Life’s a Circle

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Everything is confirmed.  (r)evolve will be arriving no later than August 11, 2006.  That means that we were less than 4 months late – not bad at all.

My new address, beginning August 1 (or, unofficially, this Wednesday):

Pat Blair
3500 Grand Ave Apt 2
Ames, IA 50010-4156

Phone number will be the same.  I am keeping the same email address, too.  I spent over an hour on the phone with Qwest today, and am confident that they will mess it all up anyway.  They have a 4-year track record that would make Tim Montgomery blush.
The new place is pretty nice.  The down side is that it doesn’t have a dishwasher, so I may have to hire one.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that bailed on last night’s Adam Weaver and the Ghosts concert in Des Moines (that would be… everyone) that you really missed out.  I am going to try to bring them through Ames this fall, and you would be a fool to miss it.  They are really good.  Like, really, really good.  They had people drive from Omaha to see them.  On a Monday night.  Very impressive.

Big Show, Not Me, Big Fun

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Last summer, some of you may remember, the Lone Strangers played a show with a special guest keyboardist, one Mr. Andrew Penke.  Andy is a former bandmate and current friend of mine, who also happens to be an incredibly talented musician, and a pretty nice guy, to boot.
One of Andy’s current bands, Adam Weaver and the Ghosts (extra tunes on PureVolume), is playing in Des Moines on next Monday, July 24th.  They play sort of mellow, indie-folk-pop type stuff.  I happen to think it’s really good.  So I’m going to the show, and inviting everyone else who is interested.  It’s at the Vaudeville Mews, $5 cover, and will go super-late.  That’s what I call a Monday!
Leave a comment or shoot me an email if you want to go.  Or just show up.  Carpool leaves my house at 8pm!

What’s Wrong With German People?

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

What’s wrong with German people?  Well for starters, they love David Hasselhoff, at least according to Norm MacDonald.  What’s wrong with David Hasselhoff?  Excluding Baywatch?  His music, that’s what.
Look, I loved Knight Rider – I was one of the most dedicated pre-school viewers that show had.  When they added evil Hasselhoff (aka Michael Knight’s twin brother Garth, who had a goatee and earring, and was thus bad), I was captivated – what a riveting plot twist!  What will they think of next?
How about a bad CGI video for an even worse song?  Ladies and gentlemen, grab your earplugs and barf bucket; I present the video for David Hasselhoff’s “Jump in My Car”.
(Shudder).

Update: I owe the Germans an apology: the song is an Australian single, and apparently a cover of a 1975 hit from Down Under.  You can watch the e-card on Sony’s site, or check out the news on Hasselhoff’s.

Q & A

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Question: How long will Pat be able to watch the new episode of VH1 Storytellers, featuring Pearl Jam, before cursing at the band, yelling at the TV, winning a one-way argument with Eddie Vedder, and finally turning the show off?

Answer: One song.
