Johnny Cash’s Angular Velocity

Filed under: Music — Pat @ 1:24 am

I just saw the Keith Urban video for “Once in a Lifetime.” I have two thoughts.

  1. Even I am embarassed by the ridiculously long guitar solo and accompanying posturing at the end of the song.
  2. If that counts as country music, than so does the new Lone Strangers disc.

Seriously, that song sounded more like a U2 meets the Goo Goo Dolls with a (very) little bit of twang. I’m not complaining - I thought it was a great tune. But country? Who are we trying to kid? The genre no longer exists in popular culture.

You can listen to “Once in a Lifetime” on Keith’s page, after clicking through a few links. I’d link directly, but the entire site is done in Flash. Jerks.

I Don’t Remember Eating THAT

Filed under: Random Drivel — Pat @ 12:21 pm

A lot of people have been asking me recently how I like apartment life. My answer is pretty much always the same - it’s great! Of course, there are always little exceptions, like hearing neighbors making noises at odd hours (for me, those hours are known as “daytime”), etc. There are also little maintenence quirks that seem to not apply to houses.
For example, this morning when I woke up, I found my kitchen sinks filled with what looks, smells, and tastes like sewage. Just kidding about the “tastes” part. So I called the property management, explained the problem, and was met with a satisfying, “Ew. Yuck!” I trust that someone will be here soon.
In the meantime, if anyone wants to stop by, the living room/dining room/kitchen smells AMAZING.

Update: the problem is fixed.  The plumber told me that, based on the sour smell, it was kitchen backup, not raw sewage.  He opined that he would rather have to deal with raw sewage, because, though gross, it doesn’t smell as bad.
Well, that’s good to know!  I think.
